The 2019 PokerStars Players Championship is over, and the PSPC winner is Ramon Colillas, who got a free buy-in to the tournament thanks to winning a “Platinum Pass.”
He ended up with a cool $5.1 million in the process, and one HUGE key hand got him there.
Here was the situation: Colillas was heads up with Julien Martini, who started with a sizeable chip lead (42 million to Colillas’s 19-plus million). By the time this hand went down, it was 35m to 24m with Martini still in the lead.

Martini and his 9-6 of hearts raised to 1.25 million and Colillas and his Queen-5 offsuit called.

These live events are fan favorites thanks to the humongous prize pools and the ability for recreational players to satellite their way into a spectacular poker experience.
The U.S. online poker market has made some headway this past year, but it is still too early to know if PokerStars will offer satellites into their live events for U.S.-based players that play online at PokerStars. Currently, PokerStars operates in New Jersey, but with recent legislation, PokerStars is confident that expansion into Pennsylvania is on the horizon.

Daniel Negreanu announced the most exciting news live at the PokerStars Championship Prague. He announced a $25,000 buy-in PokerStars Players No-Limit Hold’em Championship (PSPC).
PokerStars is committed to making this tournament the “focal point for online and live promotions and player rewards throughout 2018.”
Earn your Platinum Pass to PSPC
You can expect to see more than 300 Platinum Passes handed out, each valued at $30,000 each. The first Platinum Pass was awarded during the live announcement.
There will be plenty of opportunities to earn your Platinum Pass. If you’re outside the U.S. add the Winter Series to your calendar. The online event takes place December 25 – January 7 and will award the next Platinum Passes.
You’ll see more Platinum Passes making their way into poker player’s hands during the IPO in Italy, PSL Macau, PCA,PokerStars Festival London and throughout all of 2018 as PokerStars fulfills its commits to award 300 lucky dreamers with a poker experience of a lifetime. Sure, they’re long trips for American’s to take — but it could be well worth a $30,000 PSPC package.
You can also expect to see promotions for Platinum Passes to be part of the PokerStars signature online series SCOOP, WCOOP and other events such as the Sunday Million and the Sunday Storm.

Again, there is nothing specific as it relates to U.S. players playing online at PokerStars, but one can hope for a holiday miracle, right? Regardless, maybe it’s time to start booking your trips to a PokerStars Live Event (or three) in 2018 for a chance at your Platinum Pass.
A remarkable $9 Million added to the prize pool
And the good news just kept coming. According to David Carrion, the Director of Marketing for PokerStars, “PokerStars will be giving the first PSPC winner a $1 million bonus in addition to the first place prize from the total prize pool.”

No matter how you look at it, PokerStars will be adding an additional $9 million to the prize pool. If that isn’t plus EV, then what it? And not only that, the added money will undoubtedly turn out an unprecedented field of poker pros and amateurs.
The PSPC will be a five-day extravaganza held in the Bahamas right before the PCA from January 6 – 10, 2019. Players who fail to earn a Platinum Pass may buy-in to the event for $25,000.
And it’s important to note, players will only be entitled to earn one ticket and must attend the 2019 PSPC. The Platinum Passes has no cash value and cannot be sold or transferred.
